Price for cutting/fitting a kitchen worktop?

Does anyone have any idea how much is reasonable for:

1. Cutting a laminate kitchen worktop to size for the homeowner to then fit:

2. Cutting and fitting the worktop (a day's work)?

We've been quoted £80 for cutting or £190 for both cutting and fitting.

Thanks.

Sorry Kazz, I didn't think to add that - yes, two pieces, one with a hob to be cut out and one with a sink and both joined together.

are they doing an invisible joint or using a filler strip. I would think £190 for it is a little over the top as Si saw how long it took our kitchen fitters but around £150 for the cutting and fitting would be ok

Just to add that if they have to scribe to a wall that might cost more..

I'll be very interested in this answer too, coz we're doing ours soon, although it's a friend of Dave's who'll be doing the job when I've bought the worktop.

Personally, I think that price for cutting and fitting is pretty good, coz most workmen go on about 140 quid a day now don't they? The guy who fitted my lino the other day, was here for 4 hours and charged me 120 quid labour! It used to be 100 a day but that's gone way out the window now, I'm sure it must be about 140!

Whatever you do, as Rachel has said, make sure you get that proper cut and join, it's very important, otherwise it not only looks c*ap but it will show in time! They use a special term for this cut but I've forgotten, especially if it goes around a corner, check up on that with your fitter.

In hindsight, I'd be more happy with 150 than 190! (Sorry I don't have the pound sign on this puter, I haven't found it yet coz the sign is wrong that I've got, it isn't a pound sign lol!)

The description cut is called a butt and scribe it involves bolts under the worktop so the join is invisible....that sounds a pretty good price to me especially involving plumbing.....
