Fostering children ?

Does anyone know the difference between an independent fostering agency and Local Authority / Health Social Services Trusts fostering ?

Hi trixybird, I should do seen as I used to assess them. Basic quick guide (although very complex in reality).You still have to be approved via social services but then they can be placed through independent agencies you also will have their own placement officers. Often foster placements are better funded than ones by social services but they still have to go through social services. You need to be assessed by family placement (social services) as a starting point. Ring up your local social services and they will send you all the information you need to start with. They are always very pleased to hear from anyone expressing an interest in fostering.

Morning all Nigel and I have spoken about this several times over the years, and now Chloe is 19 and hardly at home ( plus me stay at home mum with all my silly ailments ) we are seriously considering it!
We appreciate it can be a very lenghtly process and that is why we are putting out feelers now. We (fingers crossed) hope to be moving house in the very near future ( good news on that front the day before yesterday ) and the house we are moving too will not only have extra bedrooms but will have a lovely big back garden too. So with all the extra space what better reason than to offer it to children in need of a loving home.....
I will keep you posted, and anticipate after all the red tape we could be fostering early next year!!!!!

I fostered for 6 years, I adopted the only 2 children who came to stay with me.
I started down the fee paid which is children over the age of 11, but when the assessment went through, social services recommended with my personality I would be suited to non fee paid. I got an allowance which isnt much but the rewards were unbeatable.
