A follow on thread from can you hold your dog

I had an incident today does this count that I can still hold onto my dog ?

Walking Dillon on the field this morning nearly home and our friend with her OES is following a way behind. I had Dillons long line in my hand loosely and he spots Maisie so I call him and he follows me. He then stops to watch Maisie again and this time he starts to bolt off towards her at 100mph ok bit of an exaggeration but it felt that fast.

I tighten the long line and he stops suddenly and I go down bash on the ground. I still had hold of him though.

Bobbie and I are nearly wetting ourselves Gorden is running over as fast as he can to pick me up as he thought I had fallen and hit my face. It was my chest and the heels of my hands that are smarting and my left hip.
Gorden is now saying if that had been on concrete and I am saying well it wouldn't happen he would be on a short lead not on a lax long line so not to worry.

I did feel a right fool though.

I had a similar incident Was sitting on the benches outside our flat and Spen was at full stretch of the long line sniffing around. Then he spots a neighbour who's made a fuss of him a few times in the opposite direction. And he bolted towards her. Course I had no time to gather up the long line and he had 20m to gather speed before hitting the end of it.

Common sense would tell us to just let go I suppose

Amanda can vouch for my ability to hang on to a longline when Kiki spotted a squirrel right when I was distracted nattering away. Just instinct to grab hold firmly - boy did my hand smart for ages afterwards though with all the skin it ripped off!

When I had my Boxer, I had him on a flexi and my son who was a tiddler was on his bike with stabilisers. We were walking on the path through the park and my son got his wheel stuck I bent down to free him as the dog took off. I flew through the air like something in a cartoon and landed on the path not the grass of course and slammed my hip into the ground with force but still held onto the flexi.
Stoopid and sore but still had the dog

haven't been dragged and fallen where i have hurt myself, however on a way to a forum meet up (different forum) we stopped at a service station(tebay) to let the dogs out for a wee, i thought wont need his head collar (Ty) so put him on his flat collar and lead, off we go up the small hill, where there was a pond infront of the restaurant (full glass windows) it had been raining, heading back down the hill, Ty decided he wanted to go see the ducks, i landed on my back and was dragged down the hill till my stepdad grabbed the lead, mud all down my trousers, and all up the back of my brand new jacket i now remember to use his headcollar

That could cause serious injury if he bolts on a Flexi or long line.

I had the same thing happen when Ben ( TM ) was still on the go, we were on the beach ( thank god ) when he spotted a chum and decided to take off across the sand with her, I was taken by surprise and literally flew through the air and landed flat on my face in the sand
Thankfully Ben was wearing a harness and it was just my pride that got injured, I felt a right tit

Glad you are all ok.

I must be on high alert now at all times I think.
Thankfully I didn't get dragged it was if he felt the line go taught and stopped dead. Good thing I suppose.

Lisa I thought you were going to say you ended up in the pond.
