Oh yes i will get him checked out as soon as i get my appointment. The vet said his ears weren't long enough to be a pure bred springer and his legs too short but hes still growing so i dont know how she would know. Will his ears not grow any more?, i dont know. Not bothered anyway, he is one of the most loving dogs i have ever had, what ever he is.

Working Springers are smaller than show bred ones so nothing wrong with your puppy's length of leg.

Your vet doesn't seem to know very much about the different types of pedigree breeds, but then that's no surprise as veterinary students don't get much training on what is normal & not in the different types of pedigree dogs.

I had one that tried to tell me my white & black BC was a crossbreed, because her coat was too short & Border Collies are never mainly white

One would hope so, but there are some that should never be a vet

Right you are too! Every dog is different, and if I may say so, breed standards are pretty silly. So long as he's healthy, what's the difference? I've know several 'pedigree' dogs with obvious 'breed faults' (eyes too dark; tail not right; hair too long; ridge a bit offset; spots joined together; bla bla bla) who were beautiful and perfect. So's your boy. I hope all goes well with the doctor.

I think we often forget that vets do not only treat dogs but ALL species of small and large animals.

They are not REQUIRED to be breed experts!

To OP, looking at photographs of dogs without examination cannot provide the viewer with all the facts (just as you cannot judge by eye alone)

You have been given good professional help and referred to a specialist for advice, so fingers crossed that any worries are unfounded.

Best of luck.

Yes very true, vets are not paid to be experts in identifying breeds.

Working Springers (and Working Cockers) ears are normally a lot shorter than their show bred cousins

Which is fine until the vet says dog isn't a BC & gives Milbemax, without weighing the puppy-which could result(& has in the past)in the death of said puppy.

There are times when vets should know the dog breeds

Why can't BC's be given Milbemax?
