You must also find out if any properties have ever flooded along that stretch. Lynn, I did wonder if it was a sluice gate system. Still do be careful, I don't want to put a downer on the cottage but the heartbreak of having everything totally ruined by flood water is not something you want to risk. As Jenny says, check very carefully with all the other residents if you can.
