How to cheer a dog up..

I thought it would be an interesting thread on how everyone cheers up their dog, whenever they look a bit down...As Adie is going in the Army I am a little concerned on how Louie will be affected and need ideas just incase he does get down in the dumps. I know a walk and playtime will cheer him up but is there anything else?

Great question

I find that when Dex lays down in a certain way it usually means he's less than happy - he stretches out his front paws, close together, and then rests his face on them, eyes open.

Usually if I go over and make a fuss of him, his tail will wag and he'll appear to 'cheer up'.

Sometimes, though, he seems to be 'sulking' (if one can use that word about a dog) because I won't give him more food, or won't let him into a certain room at a certain time.

Sometimes I'll brush him which although he doesn't love, does seem to alter his mood and liven him up somewhat.

Probably just what you are giving him - lots of cuddles and exercise (and another dog?)

The other dog is coming in June, but the one I have my eye on looks like she may be snapped up before then, so good luck to her if she has and I'll be on the search again.

Cuddles and play usually works with Dougal. Or a walk up Fyrish!

Some great ideas here. I agree with the cuddles. Just knowing you're there with him will make him happy. My husband has worked away from home and my two missed him but adapted well. If they look fed up after a walk, followed by a treat, followed by more playing with toys at home, then I cuddle them and give them noisy kisses on their head and nose. That seems to work. I do like that your looking for a another dog. Kira and Dylan are good pals and I' m happy that they have each other for company when I go out.
