Well as I expected there were no miracles available to day.
In some ways it was good, in as much as the xrays showed quite clearly that it was without a doubt bone cancer. The vet was surprised that the leg hadn't already snapped given how thin the bone had become and the way he's been running around on it.
The vet and nurses were wonderful and he went peacefully cuddled by mum and dad. We held it together amazingly well, until they gave us some privacy and we blubbed like babies.

Sleep tight big boy, you'll live on in our hearts forever

Thanx everyone for the support. I feel strangely peaceful about the whole thing. I'm just going to concentrate on the 8 wonderful years we shared, it was less than I wanted but he made a massive impression on everyone he met. He was a truly wonderful dog and I couldn't have asked for more.
