If I happened to be judging a class with only 7 dogs in it I would give the extra dog a special or I would place to 5th not give a sixth place but award 2 specials that way no dog is put in the position of being last.

ooohhh tricky one... I have gone for vary it according to class size...dont want to put extra pressure on judges to decide how many to place...but totally see the point of placing 6 out of a class of 7! Problem is too many gorgeous dogseys dogs.

Good point, that is why I like the class size option, it gives a basic outline of how many to place without the problem of one dog missing out.
Your class of 7 entries would get 1-3rd place
