Our hedgehog - so sad.

Some of you may remember Hugh the hedgehog we took in - the thread is here:
http://www.dogsey.com/showthread.php?t=40085

We have just had a week away, Mum and Dad in Law were looking after the chickens for us, and putting Hugh's egg's out for him - they noticed the last one wasn't eaten.

Very very sadly he had fallen into the pond and drowned - it has a cover on it but he obviously found a gap. We are so upset, he was doing really well and got up to a good size suitable for hibernation.

It would have happened wether we were here or not, we are absolutely gutted that he met such a sad end after doing so well.

Awww I'm so very sorry to hear that Trish - that is just so sad but unfortunately one of those things It nearly happened to us once. When we had Sabre (my gorgeous GSD) he kept going up the garden and looking at the spot where we had an old dog loo that my dad had put in many years before and the kids next door had broken the lid with their football and it was just a hole now with the dog loo in (we hadn't used it for years for dog poo) Well Sabre just wouldn't come away from it so I went to look what he was looking at and found an hedgehog had fallen down the hole and there was also some water in the bottom and the poor little thing was desperately trying not to drown. Well I got it out right away and ran in to get it some milk or food or something but after a short rest it ran off and went through my neighbours fence so thankfully it was okay. Sabre saved that hedgehogs life that day and my o/h filled the dog loo in right away so it would never happen again.
