!!!!i Have A Puppy Problem!!!!

Ok, so here i go:

Now from the beginning, My first puppy ever was a black lab and i had her for about a year. I was probably 13 at the time. Later we had to give it away b/c we couldnt take care of it so we gave it away to a farmer.

Second, later after a year or half a year my dad brings home 2 Jindos about 3-4 months old, one male and the other female. It was kind of unexpected and it just happend. So we had those two for about a year as well and i found out that we were moving. We were moving from a singlehouse to my cousins townhouse. The reason we were staying at their house was b/c we didnt have a place to stay while we waited for a house to buy. So my mother gave our two jindo's away to the animal shelter. I was probably 14 or 15 at that time.

Now we have moved to a townhouse with a small yard and it has been about 2 years since. I am now going to be 16 and my birthday is in a couple days. I have been wanting a Jindo puppy for about 3-4 weeks now and have been doing alot of research. I already know what it's going to take to raise a puppy and am willing to spend my time to take good care of it and raise it well. I will be a junior in high school next year and my mom says i need to focus on my school work such as college, PSAT, and SATs. I already spoke with her once or twice about it and she said that who will be home to take care of the dog when im in school and my mom and dad are at work? I really want this jindo puppy and don't know how to prove/convince my mom to get me one. PLEASE HELP.

I know it sounds bad that we gave away 3 dogs and I really am alot more mature now and I feel that i can take care of my dog and give it TLC despite school work.

I want this jindo for a friend/companion/family dog, not any show dog or anything fancy like that. But i want it to be healthy. Do you also know of any breeders around the northern Virginia area who have Jindo pups and produce some that look like the one in the picture below?

I am also very lonely, I want a friend.

Hi - I'm sorry circumstances dictated that you had to *give away* your other three dogs.

I see exactly the same thing happening with this potential new puppy.

Sorry - but your Mom is completely right - please wait until you have the time to give your full attention to a pup. For most of us, that's after school/college are over, when we don't have to go out to work, and we are willing to give up any social life for a long time.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but I've been there, and I know the heartache giving a dog up entails. You will know it first hand too, if you go ahead.

Please don't be rash.

Hi puppylove777 welcome to Dogsey

I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to agree with your mum on this. Puppy's need a lot of training, attention and socialising. You'd also be surprised how much damage one little innocnet puppy can do aswell

Have you considered the cost of insurance, vet bills, vaccinations, food etc. These can really add up.

Really research the breed the you're interested in, contact as many breeder's as possible and visit them if you can, to see the dogs in the home environment. You may even have to go on a waiting list.

Welcome PuppyLove777

After reading your post I must agree with the others - sorry but there are so many other factors which need to be taken into account with a puppy. How will you cope going to school/college when the pup has been crying all night, and wanting your attention and your tired. Something will have to go without...... and the puppy will suffer. All of you will be away from home during the day! A puppy should not be left for hours on end.

Vet bills etc mount up, and your parents will have to foot the bills, pay for food etc.

I know this sounds so negative but why not wait until you can take full responsibility, and then you can be sure of a stable enviroment and a forever home for you dog.

In the meantime I hope by becoming a member of this forum you can extract as much enjoyment and knowledge for your future pup xxx

Sorry but i agree with your mum

it would more than likely turn out the same way as your others, How would you be able to look after it while at school, so much time and work is needed to look after a dog. i think you should wait until you have finished school and maybe a little part time job so you can offord the insurance, food and vet bills

Sorry, but I agree with the others, without the total support of your parents on this, it simply can't work. If circumstances change again or your parents move again, oops there goes another puppy. Until you can give the puppy the commitment it deserves just content yourself with planning for the puppy you will have in the future when you can commit totally.

I am afraid that I must add my voice to the others that say wait and be patient until you have the time to devote to a dog and the finances to maintain it. A dog, of any breed requires a huge commitment of time and money over many years, and the Korean Jindo is not the easiest of breeds, as you will know if you have done a lot of research: http://www.dogsey.com/korean-jindo.htm

What is it about the Korean Jindo thay appeals to you? Wanting & researching a breed for "3-4 weeks" is not long enough

It would be unfair to bring any dog into a situation where it is not wholeheartedly welcomed by every member of the family, and a pup needs someone to be there with him/her full-time for quite a while to educate him/her in house-training and good manners.

ETA - if you ever do get a Jindo please make sure that you purchase a registered dog from a reputable breeder who values temperament in their dogs. Please do not buy a Jindo crossbred. My research into the breed leads me to believe that Jindos, who themselves have a feisty temperament, are sometimes bred to others of uncertain temperament for unsavoury and illegal purposes. Be careful!

I think your feelings are well meant and you obviously are as doggy-mad as all of us on dogweb.

Saying that, I think you should take your mum's advice and wait. i found that having a dog is a little like having a child, but they don't grow up. If you look after them properly, they are very tying, demand a lot of your time and care, and can be expensive.

As you're yearning for canine company, why not ask around at local kennels or rescue centres to see if you can become involved actively, it might help and would give you some great experience in dog handling and whats needed to be a responsible owner. You'll have your dog at some point in your life but make sure its the right time for you and your pup.

I am sure the replies you have recieved were not the ones you were hoping for, first I would like to say I know how frustrating waiting to be in the right circumstances to have a puppy is. I waited 4 years to be in a possition where I could have a dog after moving out of home and away from our family dog, and since I was 7 for a pup of my own after my parents took on a collie pup with 4 children under 10 and couldnt cope, they found a lovely farm for her but I was heart broken, we since had rescue dogs who were brilliant but I always wanted my own puppy.
I used the time I had to wait for my puppy reseaching puppy care behaviour and looking into the breed that would be best for me, on christmas day 2005 my Puppy was born, he is 6 and a half months old now and was well worth the wait the amount of time I had to wait for him has made owning him all the more special, it is hard work having a puppy and you really need to be in a possition to give it all the time attention and training it needs, I agree with everyone else and your mum in saying you are not in that possition right now but your time will come and it will be well worth the wait!
