I used to dress my (long-deceased now) BC "Glen" in silly clothes, when I was very young: My Dad told me to stop doing it because he thought it robbed poor Glen of his dignity. I didn't understand then, but I do now.
Nowadays, I think all animals, even the humblest farm animal with no future, has its dignity, and is possibly conscious of it.
Personally, I don't think that making an animal the object of derision, by dressing it up/painting it, etc., is all that funny. I know that my Kali HATES being laughed at, even when he has done something funny himself - he slinks off to his bed and sulks! The only thing I've ever done like that was to attach a paper "L" plate to his collar, when he went to his obedience classes all those years ago.
