Wolfwitch, I used to be a self-confessed 'mac hater and windows lover' until yet another windows laptop died, slowed down to snail speed and so forth. After seeing how my sister's laptop (and my dad's apple desktop) seemed to work for years with no problems, and my dad offered to buy me a macbook pro when my laptop died, I went for it and never regretted it.
I've got to say though I'm not an apple convert. I haven't got an iphone or any other apple products. In fact, I have a windows phone that I love

But with the laptop, I'd always stick to the macbook. I've never had any issues with any restrictions. Modern macs are well adapted and run various programs that were initially designed for windows computers.
Actually, my windows phone currently won't syncronise music with my macbook, while I never had problems with blackberries or android phones!
