Hello new user (itchy skin)

Hey I have the most adorable lab cross am trying to find out best ways to treat itchy skin - have tried aloe Vera but only limited success - any ideas

What does your vet say about the itching/how old is your dog/is there a rash and (or) inflammation/ where is it/when did it start/ what do you feed.
Sorry about all the questions, it is necessary before suggesting anything which may help.

The vet advised that it could be an allergic reaction but that it could take a lot of tests which may never really solve the issue
I feed her on beta with chicken / fish / pork/ beef freshly cooked not processed I also give her cod liver oil once a day

If this itching IS an allergy of some sort, then the first thing that I would do is remove all animal proteins from the diet, along with rice. Fish and potato is a very good start for this sort of thing, and Fish4Dogs do a couple of very good kibbles (my dog who had severe allergies is doing very well on the salmon and potato kibble - the rescue centre knew that he had a problem and had him on lamb and rice which was actually the worst thing for him although they were not to know) and you should see a great improvement within a couple of weeks - don't forget those treats though, nothing but vegetables, fruit such as banana, or fish skin treats.

Obviously, if there is no improvement on this diet, then something else is causing the allergy and you will have to look at external influences.

Hi and welcome from me too.

One of my dogs is intolerant of beef, chicken, pork and all grains. I had no idea initially other than he was scratching so much. I tried loads and loads of different foods and ended up with 6Fish Orijen which has no grain and suits him wonderfully. Many dogs can also have an allergy to grass pollen too so it might be worth avoiding long grass with your dog.

It really is just trial and error. But when you find whatever you dog is reacting to will be a revelation as the itching will stop virtually immediately. Grain is the highest food reactor in dog food according to my vet.
