Fresh sardines!

The fish van has just been round for the first time in ages, and I have just bought 5 kilos of fresh sardines.

Pereg has had tinned sardines before but the only raw fish she has had is cheap white fish [she has Omega 3 FBO caps so it is OK for her to have white fish]. These are fairly large and she had already had meal #1 which was a chicken back & neck so I had not intended to give her one yet, but she went sniff sniff and asked nicely so I gave her one...

...nom nom nom nom, crunch crunch swallow, and it had gone before I could get my camera out!

It is now over an hour since Pereg scoffed that fresh sardine and as it has not re-appeared I guess it will not do so now! I am currently in the process of open freezing the hundreds of sardines I appear to have bought [OK, so I am exaggerating and it is only a few dozen or so]. I am keeping some of the largest ones separate for myself as they will need decapitating and gutting, but Pereg will have them as they are, heads, innards and all.

I actually did not intend to buy 5 kilos but sort of haggled with the guy in the fish van...

I hope you both enjoy them

Ted refused his sardines this week so I might try them frozen next time

Umm - I have five trays of large sardines currently being open frozen, plus some extra large ones in the fridge, some of which I will decapitate, gut and grill for myself tomorrow.

There are a lot of sardines in 5 kilos...

As Pereg enjoyed the raw sardine so much, and no, it did not re-appear - does anyone know how often I can give them to her?

Actually she just nicked a frozen one as one lot slid off one of the the trays as I was getting them out to pack them all away, and she got to it before I did.

I don't know for definite but Whisper has tinned sardines at least once a week - sometimes twice a week - good for the Omega oils etc. She loves them!

(So does my husband - sometimes he 'steals' Whisper's lol!)

I haven't dared to feed raw having read some of the horror stories on here lol. Glad Pereg is enjoying them! (And you of course!)

I don't see why raw sardines can't just be incorporated into her usual raw diet and be fed a few times a week.

I feed Cain raw sardines once a week, but I imagine two/three meals a week would be ok too.

Glad they haven't reappeared. If tinned wasn't so expensive I would feed several times a week
