How many treats do you give out every day?

I just realized how much I treat...

"You're not destroying anything? Treat!"
"You went to bed on your own? treat!"
"You aren't following me? Treat!"
"You didn't bark at the door? Treat!"
"You're staring at me? Treat!"
"I'm leaving. treat!"

I wonder how much it takes for treats to stop being treats.

Teagan gets treats on walks when she ignores other dogs/has her attention on me, and also when we do bits of training (sits/downs), she also gets a couple of treats at bed time - and thats about it!

The rest of the time she gets strokes/pats/attention for being good!

They get a 'big' treat when I go to work (stuffed Kong/pigs ear type of thing).

During the evening, they'll probably get a few small biscuits/bonios/gravy bones for various things - e.g. training, treats on walks, for not barking/recalling etc

A couple of gravy bones before bed and that's it.

I always have pockets full of training treats for such things as recall out on a walk.

The dogs sometimes have to work for each mouthful of their dinner. Bit yucky as they are on raw so can only do it with minced meat.

Polo will have a big chunk of garlic sausage cut into about two thousand pieces for his reactive dog class tomorrow. High rates of reinforcement for stressy situations. That will count as his breakie! About to start chopping shortly...

Just training treats daily- and the odd pigs ear/bonio/something similar occasionally, i.e. perhaps when everyone's going out, or she hasn't had one in a while.

Cherry gets treats for not reacting to other dogs and then I have to give Parker one as well of course

It is funny when I take him out on his own as he mixes with other dogs and then comes to me for a treat which other people must find strange!

They get a treat for having their teeth brushed at night and one for putting their harnesses on and one for jumping in the car.

Too many is the answer I think!

For the main part, I hardly ever take treats out on a walk, only if I know we will be doing some training so they very rarely get them. I dont treat for things like everyday recall or sitting or waiting etc because they've learnt all that now and are way past getting treated for normal stuff.
