D-day, 14 August
Today, in a spirit of hopefulness versus expectancy, we filled in the form to enter our Kali Kolsson for the County Show - class 271 "Collies".
The lad is 10 now, and whilst he's fully fit and still handsome, we have to recognize that the competition is all a lot younger than he is! Nevertheless, we'd always promised him that he could go in for as long as he and we are fit for it. It never occurred to us that he would be fit for it for longer than we would be! All the same, one of us will try to hobble round with him (as long as he doesn't pull!), because he seems to enjoy it.
Last year was the first year that he won nothing, but we did know the judge from beforehand, and she doesn't like Kali at the best of times! Poor Kali seemed to know that he hadn't won a place; he sulked for the rest of the day! We are trying to prepare him for a similar lack of success this year, but - "Nothing ventured, nothing gained", as they say. There's always the outside chance that he may get that one last rosette!
