Loki's kidneys update

Loki went in to the vets yesterday for an ultrasound and a contrast x ray. The good news is that he has two kidneys of normal size and shape. One seems to have a hole in it or it may be a cyst. When they injected the dye for the x ray, it never reached the kidneys, so it looks like he has a blockage somewhere in his system which is slowing the blood flow to the kidneys. The x rays are going off to the specialist, as my vet says he is stumped! It may turn out to be Acute Renal Failure, rather than chronic, so it may be fixable. Not counting any chickens yet but it's better news than we had hoped. He is on a phosphate binder in his food and has really perked up since taking it, also he is drinking less. His breath is still minging though and his tongue has gone brown. Yuk!
More bloods next Wednesday to check his phosphate levels but I am hopeful as he is much happier than he was. The only problem now is the intense itching from where he has been shaved for his scan, and a sore willy from his catheter! So all fingers and paws crossed, things may be looking up!

Hi Loki's Mum that sounds a bit more hopeful.
If there is a blockage and it can be cleared and only one kidney is affected that will be even better news so fingers crossed here xx
