Er, I don't get a choice, Dougal just goes for it whether I like it or not. If he's on lead I won't, but off lead he's frequently away ahead of me and at it before I am able to do anything.

I see alot of people telling their dog of for it so i wondered if there was a reason or if it could make them ill or something

Yes, if it looks alright or is out in the country side and so long as I know local farmers haven't being fertilising etc.

I do not permit puddle drinking in areas like car parks where there may be a build up of toxic chemicals such as antifreeze.

The same applies in arable fields re fertiliser and chemical spray run off.

In set aside, grass, silage, hay etc I have no problems with them drinking from puddles etc.

I try to maintain a balance somewhere between "paranoid" and "negligent"
