Gas meter failed - british gas emergency line....CLOSED

Well, I went to cook myself some eggs for brunch, and the gas fizzled out.
****** I thought, need to feed the meter.
Went to the meter and it says on the screen 'Battery FAILED'.
I looked in my hand book, and of course, that fault isn't in the book, but another battery fault is, so I phoned the number it told me.
'Press 1 for no gas or electricity emergencys'.
I pressed 1, automated system asking for name, post code etc, I give all my info, then it says "We are closed for bank holiday until Tuesday."

WHAAAAT!!!
So their machine has failed, and now I have no hot water, no heating, and no way to cook. Great!

Why doesn't it tell me they are closed when I first ring, rather than asking for all my info?
And why in hell is it an emergency line, if it's closed?!

I think that is disgusting, you are paying for a service they aren't providing. Looks like everything in the microwave now

That would get me all worked up as well!!

And I hate it when you go through a million different options on the phone then they tell you they are shut, it makes me proper angry. Also hate it when you follow all the options correctly, you finally get through and then get told you need to be transferred to another department!

What would happen if you had a gas leak then? Surely there must be a constantly open line for something like that?

Sounds silly....but I don't know how to cook things in a microwave!
I only have fresh things, and only use the microwave for baked beans and hot milk lol

Really annoyed though.....and when I phone tomorrow i'll have to try not to loose my temper with them!

Yep, theres a 24/7 line for gas leaks.....but thats cos it's dangerous.

They don't think having no food/hot water/heating isn't dangerous!

Noooooo don't put an egg in it's shell in the microwave, the shell will explode.
You can poach it though or scramble it, delish
You know Hev you have been/ are pretty poorly, I would class you as an emergency.
There must be somewhere you can get help.

Ring the gas leak 'emergency' number and play on the fact that you are ill!

They may be able to put you through to someone else!

Thats absolutly disgusting an emergency line should be open 24/7 regardless.
How absolutly pathetic letting you go through all the options too before telling you they are closed. Sounds like they are deliberatly trying to wind people up.
I had this happen to me once, but living in a housing association house I just phoned them and they got someone out to me, so wasn't a problem for me.

Just phoned, spent 15 mins on phone sorting out someone to come and fix it.
Someone will be here within 4 hours.

The lady told me they were open yesterday when I said I called and they were closed. She said "Was it after 6pm?"
I said "No, it was around 11am. I phoned twice and got the same message"
She didn't know what to say!
