How much and how often?

i know alot of people feed their dogs garlic as it keeps away fleas, and i gave daph a bit on her food before and she seemed to like it.

but i wondered, how much should she have and how many meals a week should i put it in for it to be effective and keep fleas away, but not overfeed her on garlic?

can it be bad if she has too much?

I think too much garlic can be bad for dogs. I've read about people giving garlic to their dogs to keep fleas away but as with everything I wonder if they might not have got fleas anyway

Not saying garlic doesn't work or that you shouldn't use it, it possibly does work it's just that with anything which is supposed to stop them you can't prove that if you didn't use it they would have gotten fleas, if you know what I mean.

I had my last dog for 12 years and although I didn't treat her she never got fleas. Lana hasn't had fleas in the 10 months I've had her. I did treat her the once for fleas as she's constantly scratching even though the vet couldn't see fleas either. She's still scratching, seems to have an allergy to something which I haven't discovered yet.

I would be very wary about giving a dog garlic, fleas or no fleas! Garlic can be quite irritating to the stomach so any dogs with sensitive tums, or giving too much, can really upset them.

Flea control is best via the spot-on treatments from your vet.

Ollie has a clove of garlic put through a press once a day and has done since being weaned.

He is a large dog though so for your breed I would say 1/2 or 1/4 only maybe once a week it can be bad for dogs if not used properly like anything can be bad if not administered properly. Try a google search for the size of dog and how much garlic.

Ollie is now nearly 41/2 and never had a chemical flea treatment in his life. My other dog Max never had anything like Ollie does always had fleas and allergies related too them. They are walked in the same places fields with lots of long grass cats, deer foxes etc., frequenting the place and until about 2 years ago had a cat of out own and they are normally the worst host for fleas if outside roaming cats.

My dogs work as well as get walked in rural areas so they are susceptible to fleas from all kinds of things they come into contact with, such as rabbits. They have never had fleas and I give them a garlic tablet a day.

Last summer one of my dogs had ticks on a weekly basis and that was before I used garlic. This summer there have been no ticks and they have garlic...maybe it works, maybe it's just coincidence but i'll stick with giving them a garlic tablet a day.
