Clutter or minimalist?

Are you a clutter sort of person or a minimalist? Anyone changed succesfuly from clutter to minimalist?

I am trying to be a minimalist but sometimes feel I am drowning in clutter and want to change!

I did institute a "rule" that whenever we bought something new home then we had to re-home a similar item. So . for example; I bought a new jumper-I have to throw out/take to a charity ship, an old one.

I bought Izzy home and Parker got thrown out! No I'm only joking!

Still have lots of clutter though and I feel like I just maintain it as I tidy up and move stuff from one place to another so it is still there

Any tips appreciated.

We use our largest bedroom as a study/hobbies room but I don't want to do any craftwork there as my table is covered in stuff.

He-he what would you sit on though? The dog's bed?

I do hate ornaments. I think it is because my Mum has so many and they are all horrid to my thoughts but they have memories to her. I have 2 ornaments only.

I've recently de-cluttered our whole house after we re-decorated...cupboards, shelves, cabinets, windowsills, mantlepieces... I think i'm 'nesting' , cleaning like a freak (not like me at all, it's causing chaos here) and now i just see less clutter as less to clean and just a more tidier appearance. I've put all the bits and bobs I couldn't bear to throw away in nice cases ontop of the wardrobe. Lots I've thrown away It has made me see how wasteful I am, buying rubbish for no reason so i think it's taught me a lesson too.

So my tip, erm get pregnant then you go a little mad with it and very blase about what you chuck!

We de-luttered when we moved house 6 weeks ago... in the process we have gained even more... Just about open the front door!

Will have another tidying session in a few weeks!

I have a 15 article rule.

Every day discard/give away/throw out 15 articles.

I mean how many empty mayonnaise jars do you really need to keep?

[says Malka who is desperately willing herself not to go through the bag waiting to be taken to the recycling place to take out the faithful friend she said goodbye to this morning...]
