Microchipping

I am about to get Maisie microchipped. Cost at the vets £28.60 and at the RSPCA £15. Quite a difference.

Usually the vet will reduce their fee if you have it done at the same time as something else, like neutering. I had my last pup done at a pet store, Wilsons I think it was, couldn't fault it and it was only about £12.50 a year ago.

If you are an agility person, you can quite often get it done as cheaply at a show.

Microchipping is often done at gundog fairs, championship shows etc or you can find a local chipper who will often be much cheaper than a vet. Your local dog club will often have info.

Some rescues will do it for free..........It is worth asking around and seeing what you can find.

if you go into just for pets, if they have a vet care part they do microchippin for £10..im getting Gem done tomorrow.

Bl**dy h*ll- I chip( as well as tattoo) & I only charge £10 for chipping if the dogs come to me or I do a litter.

Ask about which chip is going to be used as some move far more than others

My dog has 3 recorded chips in him but only one seems to register on the scanner.

Just one thing on chipping prob common sense, but it is worth getting the vet nurse just to check it is still in place at regular intervals, and especially fairly soon after. They will usually do this free of charge especially on pups it is good to get them into the hang of going to the vets.

The best thing to do is to make sure the chip is put between the shoulder blades & not in the "scruff" of the neck. The technique is to draw the skin on the top of the shoulders up with thumb & middle finger & make a sort of pocket between the two fingers with the index finger & then insert the "needle"to the full extent pull the trigger & release & then withdraw the needle. This makes sure that the chip is between the shoulder blades

We expect to be going to some obedience shows this year so I may wait till then. Is there any particular chip I should be looking for?
