I`m no vet but reading the further info in your latest post is making me think bacterial dermatitis / yeast infection or similar...

Has the vet done a skin scrape or taken swabs by any chance, including ears ? [ an ear yeast proliferance can sometimes affect other parts of the body especially pits ]
If yes and those have been ruled out I`ll go back to the drawing board :smt001

That's a good point Patch! (by the way I lived in Colchester until 23 months ago!)
The trouble is, my vet is a farm vet and whilst excellent (and cheap) he would look upon this as trivial and is constantly bemused by my apparently fussy attitude! However, I know from previous experience that he will humour me if I smile nicely so I'll pop round after work tomorrow and get him to have a look at it with that in mind.
I have been suffering from a fungal infection recently - which is a first for me at the age of 50 so I keep wondering where it has come from ) maybe there's a connection
Thanks very much (and to everyone else) for suggestions, I will report back tomorrow night if I have any news.

Various, used the one on the Hythe a few times but found them a bit patronising and expensive, ended up at the Willows Mersea Road. Good and not over priced.
Previously I lived at West Mersea and used the vets there who were also good.

Been to the vet. It seems to be almost cleared up now,(until the next time) so he said use Sudocreme on it - they never prescribe if there is a cheap over the counter remedy - says it is very good for skin problems.
He remarked that he is lacking hair - did I shave him there - also very little over his p...p (can't remember the technical term, in a horse it would be the sheath) he does lick there a lot although the skin is in good condition around his inside thighs, we went on to discuss diet too.

Now to get the cream on without him licking it off immediately

Hi Deccy I used raw Spinnach ( processed with a little olive oil in the Robot Chef ) then sprinkled over their dinner seems to be good for skin allergies, it worked on my dacchies, I got this tip from Dog World in the Jane Lilley page a good few years ago. You could perhaps try this. I had all sorts of steroids and creams which helped for a little while but I used the spinnach for about a year and the allergy has never come back.

Takara had the same issue as a pup and I found that by applying E45 regularly it kept it away...

When I asked the vet he said she may be allergic to wool in the carpet, or maybe when the grass was wet etc.

This was the only pic I really managed to get of it,

She's a lot better now though - try the e45 or caster oil or something and maybe try making sure that he has a blanket to lay on when he's laying on carpet rather than laying flat on the carpet.

Yup, I`d concur with that. The only time I use them myself is for birds as they have an Avian vet and are set up for helping injured wild birds and sort their release to sancturies when necessary and they do have an orthopaedic specialist who I would use if needed if my own vet was on holiday, but thats about it other than when rescues I`ve done vet runs for use them and fo feral neuterings with one rescue here.

ended up at the Willows Mersea Road. Good and not over priced.

The Willows was the first one here [ to my knowledge ] offering the blood test for bitches to find out if they were already spayed or not, rather than just open them up only to find they were already done [ rescues / rehomes I mean ].

To help stop your lad licking off the Sudocreme, for rear end I find cut off pyjama bottoms work well, [ cut hole for tail unless you use gents jammys and use the fly opening for tail ], so he can lick the material without harming himself or getting at the cream before its soaked in properly, and just take them off for him to toilet. Cotton would be best for coolness on the skin, and can be ideal for when you can`t watch him ie when you are asleep. Just make sure they are on securely at the waist and that the legs are cut short enough for him not to trip on them - like short shorts is ideal for something like this. Might look daft but he only really needs them on after cream application and when indoors / at night when he`s not distracted enough from licking by playing, sleeping, or on walks :smt001
