I am glad you have brought this up. Our friends GSD started going grey arround the muzzle, at approx 3.5 yrs of age. I didn't know what the reason would be so was going to ask on here myself.

Breeds with melanistic (sp) masks to have a tendency to grey prematurely. German Shepherds, Great Danes etc. can grey very early. My Estrela bitch Rio started greying at around a year old. She's 20 months now and people always ask if she's old.

Here she is at around 18 months.
