Guide dog owners often keep them or they go to retirement homes, police dogs often remain with handlers as pets, same with any sheepdogs I ever knew

Most live out their days in retirement with their handlers unless for some reason this is impossible.

If you had a single police officer for instance ,out to work all day ,not good for a dog to be left like that so rehoming would be the best thing right?

I work for customs (in the office nothing exciting lol) and occasionally there will be a retired sniffer dog needing a home but not very often.

Why, I am a single person out at work all day, and my dogs are left all day, why would rehoming them with someone else be the best thing for them?

In what way would their present life be somehow improved and enriched?

Are the home circumstances identical? Ie does the policeman come home every night? Does the movie industry employee work where the work is ie all ove the UK, and live out of hotels etc?

When I was a child we went to the Kenilworth Guide Dog centre and rehomed a retired Guide Dog. I don't know about the others from experience, but that's how we got our childhood pet, Kes.

In my experience most working dogs retire with their handlers/owners and live the rest of their days as a pet.

However, I did know one retired police dog that was rehomed (to a very good home) through GSD Rescue. I have known a couple of sheepdogs who had to be retired from hill work but were still suited to lowland work and so they were rehomed to farmers/shepherds in a situation where the older dog could still work until he fully retired, and was then kept as a pet.
