free veterinary treatment?

I have come into contact with a family on benefits. They have a Westie with a very nasty inflamed skin. I have given them some advice on changing his diet. Bakers is well known for exacerbating skin conditions. He really needs medication but the local vet has banned them on account of non payment of several bills.
Does the PDSA or RSPCA help such pets for free?

PDSA will if they are receiving housing benefit.

Other than that I have very little knowledge of the benefit system, sorry!

They'll require certain benefits and to be in a catchment area but worth checking out

Westies seem very prone to allergies so definately could be worth them trying a change of food. Explain to them how better quality foods are better digested so need to be fed in smaller quantities - I worked it out for a customer once (used to work in a petshop) and Bakers was actually more expensive to feed than James Wellbeloved because they needed to feed three times as much of Bakers, yet it was only half the price.

With the RSPCA, it's called veterinary financial aid. If they look up their local branch on the website it will say if they offer this aid - it's "Help with the cost of veterinary treatment for people on low incomes" according to RSPCA

The Blue Cross also offer services for those on benefits or low incomes if they're within the catchment area

I have no idea if Bakers is well known for exacerbating skin conditions, I DO now that WHWT are known for being predisposed to skin conditions.

Things that can help skin conditions are:

Fish Body Oil, Vitamin E and Vitamin C.

However, if they are on benefits it may be that they cannot afford supplements, however they may be able to afford to feed the dog a tin of sardines/pilchards/mackeral 3 or more times a week.

To see any improvement at least 6 weeks is required.
