Please help! Pretty terrier x needs a home
Lola is a 3 yr terrier x lurcher/whippet bitch (born 20th march 2009) and was originally from a small holding where she was left to run wild with her 5 other litter mates, mother and another male dog. She was a very nervous 6 month old puppy and so I took her home with me. She had never had a name, a collar, never been out of the field, had had never seen anybody other than the couple that owned her.
She came out of her self very quickly but from lack of socialisation she has always been very nervous and anxious around dogs and people that she doesn’t know, especially when there are more than 2 dogs in a group. She is fine once she knows that they are not a threat and actually good play mates but it can cause her to react and defend her self as she is not always sure of herself.
I have put a lot of effort to get her use to other dogs and her favourites are lurcher breeds and terriers. She is nervous of very pushy dogs and luckily she has speed on her side if she feels the need to run away from what she sees as a threat. (I have only ever seen one dog out run her and that was a greyhound!)
Lola has always lived with another dog, and up until a year ago had never been left at home alone before (I work 2 days a week).
Before my son was born I had the time to walk Lola for a good three hours a day but unfortunately I now don’t have that time on my hands and I don’t feel that she is getting enough exercise or training from me as my lifestyle has changed so dramatically since rescuing her. As she is very excitable and highly strung she needs to burn off her excess energy and i just couldn't exercise her enough and eventually trained her on a treadmill so that I could try and burn off some of her extra energy in the evenings whilst my son slept as I was so desperate to hold on to her and to try anything. I realise that maybe this just isn't enough for her now.
She needs to be with some one who has an understanding of dog behaviour and training as she is not the easiest of dogs (but her beautiful and affectionate side definitely makes up for this) that is out in the county and can give her the long walks that she needs and not to be working full time. It will definitely take her a while to adjust to a home with a large pack of dogs as she will be very wary and does not like dogs in her face until she knows them well.
Lola is a very beautiful, loyal, playful and affectionate and my words don’t give her enough justice. I just want her to go to some one who has the time to give her that I am just not able to do.
Thank you
