My neighbour's lab has had to have both legs operated on. She was warned that the other leg could well go after having one done and sure enough as soon as she was able to be off lead after the first op the second leg went.
She actually recovered far quicker after the second op and is now about 6 months post-op. It has taken some time for her to build up muscle again but her gait is brilliant and her back end is almost back to 'normal'. For some time her back end looked like it belonged to another smaller dog due to lack of muscle.

The best of luck in Mollie's recovery and hopefully it won't be long before she is back to normal.

Molly is now 4 weeks and 3 days post second op and still doing well.

Back at the vets in a fortnight for x-rays to see how things are going but I'm very hopeful all will be well.

You must be psychic!! I have been recently wondering how she was getting on, and am delighted to see that she is doing so well.

Still, you are an old hand at this post op thing now

Thank you.

Yes, the whole post-op care thing certainly is second nature now!

A week tomorrow and she'll will be going for her x-rays. She has also used up all of her £4k insurance money for the year!

Molly had her 6 week post op X-rays yesterday.

All is well, bone is healing nicely and the vet is delighted with her progress.

We can now start to increase her exercise. She's doing so well that we can start her on 10 mins 4 times per day, instead of 5. Then increase each walk weekly by 5 minutes. In 4 weeks if all is well we can put her on an extendable lead for a couple of weeks and then off lead after that.

Vet said she doesn't need hydro. We're due to go Northumberland in 7 weeks so if I find she's not as strong as I think she should be, we can bring her back for a few hydrotherapy treadmill sessions the week before we go.

So, effectively, that's her signed off from the Vet School!

So pleased she's doing well and can start getting out and about again. We're now at the light at the end of the tunnel stage!

Thanks to all for Molly's well wishes. Much appreciated.

Molly's thoroughly enjoying her 15 minutes x 4 walks per day. Seems to be coping with them very well.

I let her off lead in the garden for the first time in ages today and the first time the wee menace did was RUN to the gate to bark at the neighbour! She's not supposed be running yet, so back on the lead she goes for now. Terriers.....!
