Clear Urine.

Jack came to me a week ago today and his urine was clear and odourless (I know because he wee'd in my room whilst I was at work) I did some research and found some conflicting advice saying that it was good because it meant he was well hydrated and then some saying it was linked to kidney failure and diabetes. I was told that he would drink water until he was sick. I haven't limited their water and have not seen this, he has drank a lot and I have called him away from it when it gets ridiculous. But no sick.

Anyway today I celebrated a yellow wee from him.

But my question is - clear urine - good or bad?

if it was kidney failure, then the dog would also show illness in other ways? (lethargy? loss of appetite?)

I know in people the clearer the urine is the better, means your flushing all the toxins out of your system.

Clear is good it means toxins are being flushed.

If there were kidney probs, he would show other signs, lethargic weight loss, appetite loss, vomiting (if its gone too far) etc... sounds like he is fine to me

He's going to get the odd bits and bobs. But he's on Autarky and Butcher's Tripe wet.

When we first brought Jimmi home, he was drinking for Britain and his wee was totally colourless. He had all the tests for diabetes etc. which came back clear..........we have since discovered that for Jimmi, this is linked to his allergies.

However, with many dogs, rescue dogs in particular, they are often obsessed with water for a while and you just have to let it run it's course. They settle down after a while once they realise that water is constantly available.

Clear wee CAN be a sign that the body is not concentrating the urine which may indicate a problem - but not when they are drinking a lot of water for psychological reasons.
