The trainer in the vids suggests just using the dogs name as a recall cue and using an urgent tone, mainly because this is what you will do if the dog heads towards the road ect.

If you whistle-train your dog you get used to using it.

Well me & Jo are finally achieving recall off lead lol, she has been very bad about chasing or trying to chase our geniea fowl, but the other day off lead she saw them but I told her to leave it & called her back & she came back...no tone collar needed

Why should training a simple behaviour like recall take a long time?

I see no benifit to the dog/owner/or guinea fowl at in this.

For some dogs recall is NOT a simple behavior.

For some dogs recalling away from something super awesome is a TOUGH behavior.

Recall should always be taught in the most positive way ever because otherwise you get a dog who is either (1) scared to be with you and only comes out of fear or (2) a dog who will not come to you.

Personally, I found teaching recall simple. I made me the best thing ever in my dog's eyes. It didn't take long to teach at all. We had her off leash with us within the first month of her being our dog.

its about trust , patience and a relationship.... none of which you want or can understand.

Depends how you train, like I said I don't see why it should take for ever/never be achieved.

I don't think so, This idea that you need a relationship to train is simply a reworking of the old pack leader stuff with nicer semantics.

Recall is a learned response. I can take a dog that I have never met/worked with and have it recalling (from distractions) reliably within a few hours of training!

I don't require any sort of relationship with the dog, I just need to know what motivates the dog and take it from there.
