Pasture paddock - what can you do with them?

I know this might sound like a dumb question - but if you buy a house that has a 1 acre pasture paddock with it, what can you do with it?

Can you treat it like your garden and landscape it/plant trees etc?

We bought the field behind our house a few years ago, kept what we wanted as garden and then over time sold parcels off to folk who backed onto it so they could enlarge their gardens.

I think if it's your land (paddock) you're free to do what you want in terms of treating it like a garden and planting stuff etc if that's what it was bought as.

It's when you want to change the regsistered use of the land - ie garden or paddock to recreational or agricultural etc that the issues start

Thanks Phil - that's good to know. I would probably plant trees and make it a one huge extension to the garden.

I wonder how much pockets of land like you mention could be sold for too. I've seen a house for sale (way out of our budget!) but it has a paddack that other people's gardens back on to... so did wonder if some of it could be sold to help with the purchase price. Tho I doubt many people are buying extensions to their gardens in the current climate.

I would have trees and a huge veggie patch and maybe some chickens.

Yep I was going to say stables too! But 1 acre isn't enough grass to keep a horse, maybe a shetland though hahaha

An acre is quite a good size piece of ground.
Depending on the quality of the soil I would section off half of it.
I would then hire a Rotavator and to clear the ground grow a first year crop of potatoes, a main crop variety probably like King Edwards.
Year two I would grow vegetables and plant some fruit.

On the other half of the land I would keep chickens

I agree! I'd also put chickens, ducks and geese on it. As well as a veg patch. Ooo what I wouldn't give for an acre of my own land!

Here's the house I've seen with it - it was on sale about 6 months ago, and I guess they haven't been able to sell so it's now up for rent:

Shame they don't allow pets!
