Second Inoculation - advice please (how long before taking pup out after vaccination?

Our dog is due to have his second inoculation early next week. As its been a number of years (over 25!) since we've done this, we are wondering what everyones view is on taking him out into the 'real world' afterwards.

We have had conflicting views on when we should take him out - some say within a day or so of having the injection, some say at least a week/ten days.

Any views/advice?

Hi OssettWhites it depends to a certain extent on the type of vaccination that is used so I would discuss it with your vet.

Most vets say 7-10 days. Don't forget you can carry your puppy around until he is able to go on the ground so he gets to see lots of things ....I went to the hairdressers yesterday and there were two 7 weeks old Norwich Terrier puppies there meeting everyone and 'being socialised'

Agree a week to 10 days, but you have to take a little risk and get him out and about in your arms and in the car as the more he sees and experiences before he is 12 weeks the better.

Think the 7 to 10 days is the time advised because that is the time it takes for the body to develop antibodies to the infection introduced by the inoculation.

Hi! Always best to ask your vet as they know the current risks in your area.
Our vet advises 2 weeks, BUT I take that to mean for a free run, or around heavily dog populated areas. After about a week I lead walk, but keep away from corners and lampposts etc, nor do I allow the dog to sniff, it's a fun and quick walk round the block which generally wears them out. I would always wait the 2 weeks before free running. In the meantime, as lots of other people have said, carry the pup around, especially the routes you would take as it gets them used to the sights and sounds, especially of traffic. Just use your common sense and be careful, it's not worth rushing things and your pup getting ill, when yuo can get them out ion your arms! Hope this helps!
