Confused, (raw feeding)

Really interested in doing this for Harvey as he really doesn't enjoy his food after trying different brands have stuck with Burns as led to believe this was one of the better ones. He's always reluctant to eat it, and sometimes misses meals altogether. I'm sure raw would suit him better, but having read through all the posts and looked at several links I'm feeling confused. Some say dogs do not require any veg, others say veg must be included. Some say no added vitamins are needed some say they are. I think I would also have the problem of suppliers as do not have a proper butchers shop locally just a counter in a fruit and veg shop and I know when I asked about just ordinary bones for Harvey they didn't have any. I know some people have mentioned chicken wings in Tesco etc, this would be great. Would just like a list of what type of raw meat etc dogs should have included in their diet. (Sorry to be ultra dense)

Hi I feed raw, its based on feeding dogs whole animals as they would catch themselves in the wild, so a whole rabbit they would catch would contain all its innards etc etc

I don`t personally feed chicken wings, I feed whole quails/rabbits, whole sardines/trout. Meat as in beef/pork or lamb breast. I also give them fruit & veg pureed in the food processor. And several other things too

Have you looked at the sites or read any books, joined any forums & asked q`s? That`d be the first thing to do to understand it better, some links below for you to read, plus the first link has lots of other links in it

I do a similar thing - being as I don't feed the whole animal I make up for the missing stomach contents by adding cooked veg - and these are a must so far as I am concerned.

Raw meat can be: chicken carcasses, chicken wings, lamb bones, breast of lamb, beef bones - plus lamb, beef or chicken trimmings and offal.

I give raw but I also give both cooked and raw veggies too, plus supplements. I've just started to almost eliminate grains too.

Do you have a Pets at Home store they do the raw beef tripe etc.,in frozen bags or small square blocks and combinations of flavours in the blocks. These contain the ground bone but also feed the chicken wings or raw bones too.Once a day include the pureed veg,I also use to give clove garlic, she was a large dog if yours is small use smaller amount, tsp honey, tsp natural yoghurt, tsp or two of sunflower oil really good for the coat,I will be doing the same with new puppy,as this is how breeder feeds hers.Hope it helps. Also try the dog on raw egg 2-3 times a week, with or without shell.Mine preferred without shell.

Thanks Zantababy, I will have a look at PAH. Being a veggie myself not keen on messing too much with carcasses!

I am a veggie but my dogs love fresh meat and vegetables, I tend to give mine 1 tablespoon of hard biscuit (Royal Canin) 4 to 5 ozs of meat and 1 vitamin tablet as well as other vit tabs such as cod liver oil, conditioning tablets and vit E keeps them happy and very content there is never a dirty bowl or waste
