Need dog walking stop on journey, Exeter/Taunton area.

We are travelling soon to Cornwall for a week with the dawg. We need to have a good stopping point around Taunton or Exeter area where we can take Pip for a short off lead walk. An easy to navigate common or woodland would be good. I'd rather not fuss about with national trust type places just want the sort of everyday place you'd take your dog. Suggestions with directions and places to park would be very welcome.

A much better place to stop off would be Wellington (one junction along from Taunton) and head towards Sampford Moor and/or Blackdown Common, absolutely beautiful dog walking country and after a short climb you come across stunning views. I can give you directions if you need them.

Oh yes - nearly forgot, Wellington Monument is a nice dog walking spot.

Do you have satnav? Once off the motorway at junction 27 (I think it's 27) it would take 20 mins or so to get to postcode TA21 9QH go down a lane to a farm but park anywhere along the lane - there are one or two laybys. Walk past the farm and you can turn left into forestry commission land or you can just keep going ahead swerving slightly to the right and you're out on the common after about 10 mins walking. Afterwards you can get back on the A38 heading towards Cullompton which takes you back onto the M5 at junction 28.

It sounds like you've already got it sorted but I have a great app on my phone called "Motorway Walks and Breaks".
We found a nice walk just off the motorway when on our way to Devon in May. We came off at junction 21 and went to a place called Sand Point near Weston-super-Mare. It was the perfect length for a nice stroll to break up the journey.
The app gives sat nav details and directions for once you arrive at the walking destination.
Wherever you end up, have fun

It is a great app but sadly its only iPhone, sorry.
They do do an e-book though which may be of use to you; here is the link:

Hope it works.

Thanks, I've downloaded the e book! I really like the sound of the previous walk suggestion, but that book will be useful to have to hand in future so thanks, great suggestion!
