Coat recommendations

Hi,

I am hopefully moving into a house-share in the next couple of weeks. My dogs (Short haired Collies) tend to get themselves soaking wet and covered from head to toe with mud when we go for a walk in winter. I would not like to set the wrong tone with my new housemate by having my wet dogs shake mud all over the house.

Can anyone recommend a good waterproof coat that covers their chests?

They don't suffer from the cold (that i know of? They are always giving off plenty of steam on a cold day) so only really need a waterproof. I guess comfort is most important aspect as they run about daft so something that doesn't restric there movement. We use harnesses rather than collars which would need considered.

Cheers,

I think they`ll overheat in coats if they don`t need them for warmth.
Why not just go to the charity shop and get a load of dog towels?

The doggie rain coats we had that covered tummy and chest made Duncan far too hot - we found it better to put a jumper on him and wash it regularly.

I bought some recently for my collies as I have five and found it took too long in the morning to dry them off before work. They are Danish design 4-in-1 performance dog coats and have a removable fleece lining. They weren't expensive and I'm really pleased with them - they are completely waterproof with a wide section that goes between the front legs and then does up with velcro over the back.

As you can see, I use harnesses too and they fit over the top:

LOL.... i don't know if i could do that to them!

good idea tho! i take it you just throw it over them as you go in the door and then use it like a towel? or do they wander about in it until they dry themselves?

they look perfect. removable fleece would be a bonus.

i did wonder about that. but i figured that they cool off more through their paws/mouths/ears and belly that it might counter act it.

I would only use them in winter if that makes a difference?

anyone else think their dogs over heat in those types of coast?

he problem with towels is that they tend to shake the second they get in the door - well one of them does anyway.

Hehe - if you saw the mud down our walls you would know why I'm sorely tempted.

I think the dog sits on it and it is then zipped up around them. I can just imagine them hopping and rolling around. I think some movement is fine and assists drying but they are supposed to be supervised whilst zipped up!
