Problems in my home kennel

Hello,

I built a kennel for my Airedale Terrier, and have a problem:

The ground cover I was using seems to have caused a skin rash on my dog. So my question is, what kind of ground cover should I use?

I had a mixture of sand and bark mulch, but I think this is the problem.

Any help would be appreciated

Some bark chippings and mulches are poisonous to dogs, not sure about causing a skin condition, but you may want to read this article.
