Hedges

This is for all the green fingers out there.

I want to grow a hedge between myself and my neighbours to give us some privacy. I have checked with the council and they have said that there is no limit on the height of the hedge.

However, I need to know how far away from the fence should I plant the hedge so that it doesn't encroach into her garden, don't want to give her ANY reason to complain, she's bad enough as it is. I'm thinking Yew, half considering Lalandi (scuse spelling).

I would stay away from Leylandi they take too much work to control and look awful if pruned too hard they go brown and bald in places,
