Lovely! Can I just say that bow sounds like down and when you go to just verbals in can cause confusion. Some people use curtsy and we use bend.

I love watching Betsy, she's so clever. Hopefully after tomorrow we can start doing things like Betsy and you do. Bailiie goes mad when she sees me with the clicker so I'm certain we'll achieve something from our seminar.
Off to bed early tonight I think, ready for our big day ahead of us!

Well, we went to our clicker seminar and both came back whacked! Bailiie more so than me, but it was very informative and I learned how important the timing of the click is! I think I've been getting it slightly off cue and clicking whilst she's been all excited and barking for more and obviously she thinks it's ok to make such a noise! This I intend to stop and have been advised to be patient and wait for her to quieten down
Not sure how long I have to wait for her to be quiet but we practised earlier and each time I ignored her for long periods, she would stop barking and come up to me to give me licks and kisses . I tried ignoring this too but it's very difficult! Any advice? Does Betsy get so excited or is it just because it's new? Bailiie wants to work and is very keen to learn which is great but I don't want to reward the noise!!
But at least I know what I have to do now, and have been asked to get one trick learnt before we start our training class on Friday so she can show off what we've learned! I'm aiming to get her to stand on a book with all four paws on it at once....hope that's not too extravagant

Quite funny you saying that about the noise and confusion- she used to be very noisyvbut better now- maybe I'm a bit clearer after A while rather than it being her over excited!

I think the dogs can begin to get a bit confused unless you have a definite target in mind for what you want to do.

I like to get pretty solid basic stuff sorted first, especially with rescues. I decided to keep Fizz at the end of April and we have just started spins and twirls. For the rest he does heelwork both sides, sit down stand and stay put, recall straight to front and ----big one---a formal retrieve! It has taken about 12 weeks to get that one sorted. I haven't generalised it to all objects but he does hosepipe and a dunbell so far! He also foot targets and goes to a mark to do the three positions. Working on coming to a mark and stopping before he gets to me (just in case he does any filming!).

I did much the same with Benj who was 4. and now has a more extensive repertoire.
