Sweep was a small dog, and he hated big dogs, but the say some behave and get away with it is just silly.

And as i say, never met a pleasant JRT

As others have said there is good and bad in all sizes

Personally I dont have such a problem with the wee annoying ones - mainly because my dog aggressive Mia seems quite charmed by little dogs charging up to her and she gets quite giddy trying to bounce them with her paws (opps) but I worry for the wee dogs because reacting like they do means they are stressed - whether or not they are causing the same damage as a bigger dog they mentally are just as stressed and unhappy

Way too many big out of control dogs round here - and the owners have no problem letting them charge up to smaller dogs cos they know if there is a fight its not their dog who will get hurt

I have had a JRT launch itself at my sons buggy before now, owner thought it hilarious. I was not amused, and my son (who loves his own dogs) was terrified

Not EVERY small dog is aggressive towards larger dogs.

My Tibetan Spaniel certainly isn't which is more than I can say for some of the larger breeds we meet. Unfortunately the worst offenders are GSD's whose owners seem to think that it's quite acceptable for their ****** dogs to leap all over mine.

yes, GSD's used to be a fave breed of mine - but there seem to be many many out of control ones round here
There is a belief in SOME people here that their GSD is dom so it can charge up to other dogs and bark right in their faces - and the other dog should just submit - if they dont then the OTHER dog is agressive

As others have said there is good and bad in all breeds and owners. I think a lot of smaller dogs seem to have a free pass to bark and lunge at other dogs which is very annoying, as I really don't want my dogs to be reactive to them. I never allow my Jack Russell to bark at other dogs and make a nuisance of herself. If it's not acceptable for my bigger dogs it's not acceptable for her either. On the flip side, a lot of people with larger breeds seem to be unaware that their dogs could be seen as intimidating for small breeds and their owners.

Bottom line - ALL dogs should be kept under control, regardless of size.

in my area we have a number of toy breed owners that own aggressive dogs, walk them on extending leads and they seem to think it is exceptable for their dogs to attack/or go for other dogs and people, but as soon as a larger dog defends themselves it is then the larger dogs fault
recent case is a greyhound defending itself from a yorkshire terrier the yt is one one the most aggressive dogs in my area, it has even ran up my drive to try and bite me, now the yt owner wants to prosecute the elderly greyhound and his elderly owner, the greyhound is one of the most placid and friendly dogs in my area.

do you think it is acceptable for small and toy breeds to be so aggressive?
I dont as far as I am concerned a dog is a dog no matter what size it is and it should be under control and none aggressive to others using the public highway
This is appalling - no, it is certainly is not acceptable for small/toy dogs to be out of control and aggressive. their size has nothing to do with it, at the end of the day they are dogs and as such should be well controlled. My daughter has 3 chihuahuas and when we have them to stay they are treated in exactly the same way as our 2 big boys, in other words they have to behave themselves and are certainly not allowed to attack other dogs!

There are few things which make me more annoyed that owners of small dogs who exclaim "oh isn't he sweet" when their precious little darling is yapping and snapping at my 2

I made my point with the woman with the 2 shih tzu because other people at the bus stop were nodding their heads when I asked her to shut them up,it wouldn't be tolerated if the positions were reversed now would it?
I work hard to socialise and train my girls, yet I never see the owners of these toy dogs making them sit at the kerb, walk to heel, not pull, not to bark constantly, so why can't they do this?

shortly after we took Ben on, we were in a very countryfied pub near us, deep in the middle of nowhere. Our 2 were both on leads, we went in, went up to the bar and ordered our drinks. Tai was well known in there, but this was the first time we had taken Ben in. A sweet little JRT who we knew approached Tai and Ben to say hello, and all was well, when suddenly Billy decided to dive underneath Ben's belly and out the other side. Ben took a very strong dislike to such rude behaviour, and turned on him with a lot of noise but no teeth. Billy was off lead in the pub, my 2 on the lead. Billy demonstrated bad manners, not my 2, but of course it had to be totally Ben's fault because he had "attacked" the little boy Billy!! he had not attacked Billy, he had robustly told him off vocally, yet it ended up with us having to leave the pub and never returning. Ben was not blameless of course, and we apologised to the owners and everyone else in the pub but the fuss that was made over Billy clearly demonstrated to me how small dogs frequently are allowed to misbehave yet get away with it, and big dogs have to be the model of virtue and put up with all sorts of **** from small dogs and are expected to just turn the other cheek.

Oh well done, but somehow I knew you would anyway.

This little one sounds like a right nightmare, it has to be stopped. I get trouble from them sometimes, but thankfully, they're all noise, Zena ignores that, and they have usually stopped a few feet short of us anyway.......up until now that is ..... hope that isn't the kiss of death!!! the owners seem to think it's funny, or say they are little dogs with a big attitude, but what if I said that about mine??!!
