Hi Sharon and welcome, I am and have been a running dog fanatic for many, many years. Recommend steady on lead walking up-hill, preferably on an even, hard surface. Half a mile a day to start and slowly increase the distance, this should help considerably. Your massaging will obviously be a useful tool in his re-hab. Good luck. Gordon.

To help build muscle and strengthen him up, be sure to feed a high quality dog food, as well.

Hello Sharon have you considered swimming. It is great therapy for any recovering limbs.

Maybe look to see if there is a canine hydrotherapy unit nearby, you vet may know of one.

ETA I just Googled Kentucky USA canine hydrotherapy and a number of places came up but I don't know how close they are to you Sharon .
