Wee isla scottish border collie

hi everyone.
my wee lassie isla had to be put to sleep tuesady.
she had a cancerous tumour in her shoulder and the vet recommended putting her to sleep. which i *had* to agree with otherwise tyhey would have prosecuted me for animal suffering. she was fine and jumping up and about.
i feel really bad and miss her. i more or less executed her. she was a runty wee dog and i always protected her whereas the other dogs could stand up for themselves. i will never forget my wee lassie isla the border collie. 1999 - 2015. RIP baby girl i love u always.
its hurting me more than my fathers death. she just needed me.
thx for the birthday wishes folks.

On Steven I am sorry to hear that.
Having a dog for 16 years is as long as some people have a child and the loss is very painful..
Sleep well Isla...

Oh, I just saw this. So sorry for your loss. May she run free at the bridge with the rest of our departed ones.

I too have just seen this ... having posted on the other thread - please don't beat yourself up, the vet did absolutely the right thing, even if he/she was a bit brutal ... you love Isla, and you have laid her to rest. RIP Isla.

I'm not sure I agree with your vet for forcing you into the decision. But it is true that dogs process and communicate pain very differently from how we do. That tumour could have become agonising, and diminished the time Isla had left with you, her beloved human. You saved her from pain, at a good old age, at her side. Even in what has to be reckoned as the best of circumstances for this it is horribly painful, but you took that pain so that Isla would not have to feel it. Remember that, and remember that the love you and Isla had is a part of you forever.

I am so sorry to hear that you have lost your lovely Isla - you must be devastated. Later I hope you will gain some comfort from knowing that you saved her from future pain, but just now I understand just how strong your grief must be.
Run free Isla - beautiful girl xx
