Steroids + muscle wastage?

As you know Teagan is on steroids to keep her comfortable (we know the end is coming).
She has been on them for just under 2 weeks now, and over the past 3 days we have noticed she has muscle wastage in her back/tummy area and on her head.

Can this be contributed to the steroids, or is it the disease taking hold?

Firstly hugs for you both, it is so unfair Dylan has muscle wastage too and my vet told me it is down to the steroids. He is an old man now (approx 15) so you could expect some natural wastage but his back legs were quite noticeable when he first started on the treatment. Having said that, they have definitely prolonged and raised his quality of life hugely in my opinion. I hope and pray the same happens for Teagan. xx

Two of mine had muscle wastage due to their using other limbs to compensate when they were in pain, so I think it would be difficult to tell. (They were on NSAIDs)
I would say it is a natural process, personally.
Gentle hugs to you both.

So sorry Hevvur. Poor Teagan and poor you.

Steroids do cause muscle wastage - you only have to look at my arms and legs to see what they did to me.

Please give Teagan a special gentle hug from me. xx

When Ollie was on steorids the muscle wastage which had been mild on his head then picked up very quickly and spread to his face as well in a matter of days. with Max we noticed very litle mucle wastage.

In humans it causes muscle wastage my mum has been on Prednisilone for 17 years and the muscle wastage is very severe.
