Squealy Bike Brakes

My bike has started squealing very very badly!! I only need to tap the brakes and it screams like I'm murdering it. And frankly its getting embarrassing when I'm at school. ops:

I've tried oiling them. That didn't work. But thats as far as my knowledge goes in respect to this division of bike care.

Any tips? All accepted

from what i can remember you shouldn't oil then but file down the pads as they go shiney when worn.............

Inca, I now know I shouldn't have oiled them (dad told me)

How do I file them down though?

Is it a push bike or a mopedy thing ?
Have you checked the pads to see if theyre worn down ? Might need replacing Kate
