Upset :(

I took Rox to the park just so she could burn off a bit of steam as we had been at a dog show most of the day.

We were about half way round and a little scruffy poodle cross of some kind came bounding up and asked roxie very nicely to play, they were chasing around taking it in turns and playing very nicely. The owner came over and we were just chatting when she said what breed is roxie?

I said staffy and then she suddenly tensed up

' Those are the ones that attack dogs with no warning arent they, the ones that kill other dogs'

I said that although there are some aggressive ones and I am very aware of the general stereotype of staffies, I can assure her that Roxie is very well behaved and very well socialised and I also pointed out that the two dogs were playing very nicely together.

She then grabs her dog by the collar, shoo's Rox away and says ' Well I think we need to leave now, before IT gets carried away' and pointed at roxie

I work so so hard to make sure Rox is a good girl, and behaves herself to give a good impression and it still isnt good enough for some people. All she wants to do is play, and so did the little scruffy thing. It looked back the whole time as she dragged it across the park away from us.

Hey, don't get discouraged, unfortunately you cannot legislate for a**holes.

People pick up their children and cross the road when they see me (well not me my GSD)

If I am walking down hotel corridors and people open their doors, they close them again.

Remember, you cannot change people, but you CAN change your attitude to them.

You could always respond by saying:

Please keep your (insert relevant breed) away from my dog, it could kill her if it got stuck in her throat.

Are you sure?

I wouldn't be too upset about it, just another idiot in the world. I used to get it all the time with my rottie mix. People would be all over him gushing about how sweet and well behaved and friendly he was and then they'd ask what breed he was. As soon as I said he was a rottie mix they'd start going on about how he'd turn with no warning and tear someone to pieces and all that
