Dog's in coats..

Sitting here in my climate controlled car waiting to pick someone up,
outside is a man standing with a little staff who is shivering ,(the dog not the man) this dog needs a coat lol
Do you make sure your short haired thin skinned breeds are coated in this weather??

Gelert's short coated and has very little body fat but this winter has been so mild up until recently he's only worn his coat once. I've never know him to shiver or show any sign of being too cold but I am wondering if he should wear one more often, if only for lead walks as he keeps himself warm enough running about like a complete loon when he's off lead.

Nope, a coat wouldnt stay on Flynn for too long, it would get ripped on branches or would cause him an injury by snagging on something. Contrary to the breed standard of the SRHP and GWP, his coat is very thin and he doesnt have an undercoat that I can see but he never seems to get cold.

If I was just standing around or doing some pavement pounding then I would consider putting a coat on him a) if it was lashing it down or b) if it was freezing.

I always had my dallies in coats, they shivered and I think it is cruel if they're cold. That said Chase won't tolerate a coat even if he was cold but thankfully he's big and fluffy, Storm has a coat in the real cold as he has bad hips....
