So sorry for your loss. So many of us seem to have lost our pups this last year but I suppose it's par for the course on a dog forum. It doesn't make it any easier for you but we can all empathise with you completely. It's a horrible time for you and as the others have said just do what you have to do, to grieve for your little one, after all those years it's a big loss and will leave a big gap in your life for a while. Sending hugs to you. xx RIP Lucyxx

I just want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone on here who has taken the trouble to respond, your kind words and thoughts are really helping me at such a dreadful time. I would love you all to see Lucy and will sort out some photos and post them on here soon.

The place you are in right now is just so terrible, but in time you will be able to smile when you think of all the lovely times you and Lucy shared together over her long and much loved life.

It's four years since I lost my little girlie and tears still come from time to time, but mostly now I can smile at the sudden memories that are triggered by the most unlikely things (cleaning out the sock drawer last week and seeing my baby so clearly with a rolled pair in her mouth - socks were her comfort blanket).

Run free little Lucy. A little star shines just that little brighter in the sky now

I'm so sorry you have lost Lucy
I lost my beautiful lurcher Lizzie at the beginning of February so I do know how you feel . Like you for a long time I felt that I was feeling worse every day not better .
Then eventually I did begin to feel a bit better .
I still miss her terribly but i am learning to deal with it .
She was such a kind dog I know all she would want would be for me to be happy and I'm sure Lucy would want the same for you .
My advice is just be kind to yourself and just do whatever you want to do .
You never forget them but it does get better

I am so sorry for your loss. Lucy was a good age but that doesn't make it any easier I know. It is a horrible horrible time but I am lucky in that I had two other dogs when my BC died last November so had to get on with the walks and still give them their cuddles which helped enormously. My staffie x had always had my BC in her life so she had to be comforted as well as she definitely felt the loss for several weeks. I do hope things get better for you over time. Lots of hugs. xxx

LAST NIGHT
I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today; your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said, "it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

*** hugs to you ***

Oh Diane...I'm so sorry My heart bleeds for you. It is totally devastating as everyone on here knows.
I lost my beautiful greyhound Holly in october last year from kidney failure and also lost my gorgeous collie Bessie in january so I feel your pain.
All I can say is it will take time to heal and you will never forget, but it does get easier to deal with.
I still weep for my girls now but the pain is not so raw.
You will get a lot of support here hun...we all know how you're feeling right now.
Big hugs to you Diane and run free at Rainbow Bridge sweet Lucy......another beautiful angel is in heaven now watching over you xxxxxx
