Has anyone bought a custom dog cage for the car from Hamster Cages?

Thanks to everyone who replied on my tailgate thread, now I've had a think about it we are going to get a cage instead, as it's safer for Bobby and the new puppy.

I wondered if any of you had used www.hamstercages.co.uk They have one set price and the cage looks really good. Also it's only 25 mins drive from our breeder so very convenient and would save us £15 delivery.

Thanks

The link doesnt work. Do you mean hamster baskets??

If so, we have one. Its fab. We have a full boot one with an extension for when the back seats are down. It was a very good price and the guy is really nice.

The cage itself is a bit bendy for my liking. With a large lab if they lean on the partition is does bend, but obviously doesnt break. If i was nit picking i'd say i'd want it a bit sturdier. BUT, it doesnt make a sound when you're driving (no rattling crates!!!) and its really lightweight so easy to get in and out of the car

We took the car to them to be measured as its only half an hour away, but they can also make them from your own measurements which is great.

Oh yes, sorry, duh!!! it's hamster baskets, lol, is there any way I can edit my title on the thread?

We have a tibetan terrier and getting a second one, so not as big and heavy as a lab so it would probably do for us, as I can't lift heavy weights due to my back problems.

Glad to hear apart from the bendyness you're happy with it, how long have you had it?

Yeah just click on the "edit" button at the bottom of the post and i think you can do it through that. Or ask one of the moderators to do it if you cant edit the title, they are a pretty helpful bunch

We have had the crate for about... 2 or 3 years i guess. It has been invaluable when taking several dogs to shows! with a Tibetan Terrier the bendiness wouldn't be a problem im sure. They wouldnt weigh too much more than a pug, and my puggies cant bend it by leaning on it. It would just be an issue with the very large dogs maybe.

Thanks I've tried to edit the post and the heading, but there's no 'edit' button on my first post, very strange, lol, so I can't do it.

That's great that your crate has lasted so long, I think I will definitely go for that company then, as they are quite a bit cheaper than the others. Aw I love pugs, they're so cute! Yep Tibetans look heavy but it's all fur, they're a tiny frame underneath so aren't actually that heavy so the cage should be fine.

I've emailed the guy to see if he can make a cage with a door that opens to the right, the same as my boot door (I have a RAV4), so just waiting for a reply now. I love the fact that the cage has two holes so you can put the dog's lead on before opening the cage door, does your cage have that or is that something new they've started doing recently?

Personally if your car door opens to the right, I would have the cage door opening to the left.

This way , it gives you a tunnel , so the dogs cant escape /jump to either side when you open it.

Just a personal preference
