Is it difficult to hand strip a dogs coat?

Just wondering how difficult this is to do. I get Harvey done twice a year but the last time he went he wasn't too keen (I think due to the fact the lady hurt him when clipping his claws on a previous occasion). So have been thinking of trying to do him myself. I'm sure someone said on a thread a while a go that the Zoom groom can be used for this. I'm picking one up from the pet shop tomorrow.

I think tuti explains a bit. Perhaps you could PM her and she'd be able to explain fully. Having only ever had short haired dogs, I've never needed to strip a coat so wouldn't be the best person to give you reliable advice. Hope this helps

Hi Marean a zoom groom may remove some loos hairs but I don't think it will strip, you strip with your thumb and index finger or a knife like a hauptner and a chalk block... can't explain now it will take too long, but pm me if you want me to explain further when I have some time.

Hi Marean You can't use a zoom groom to hs but it does help

It's really not so difficult and actually quite therapeutic
I would recommend getting Pearson knives to start off with... not sure which type for a BT but Dawn should be able to answer that. The reason I recommend them is the blades are pre dulled so you will not accidentally cut the hairs... I graduated on to my first 'sharp' knife (a Mars) a few months ago and i still have to be soooo careful!

Have fun
