Web design - What's the best software??

I want to set up my own website but have no experience of doing such a thing.
I have Microsoft Frontpage but I'm not sure that this is good enough to set up a professional looking website.

Can any of you clever bods recommend the right software or books to help me on my way...???

Frontpage is a good place to start and to learn with but the software i get along with most is

Macromedia Dreamweaver Expensive yes but it will let your write in what laugauge you want either in code or by using banners and other pre set tools for you to work with. Also learn flash as well will make the site more dynamic and using vector graphics will also allow the pages to load up faster.

Its what I use, very easy to use and you can choose your own web and email address.

Good luck
