i wasa under the impression it was a cellar at the bottom of their apartment block so of she is a few flights up than possibly not...but what about the people in the apartments above it???

Yeah it does say a block, but what about the kids they took in and adopted, did his wife not question that? It says 2 out of the 3 were found left in the block, wouldn't any normal person call the authorities?
